Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Substation Technologist to join our Transmission Field Operations team in Calgary, AB. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the operation, inspection, and maintenance of AltaLink's transmission substations in Alberta.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain substation equipment associated with the AltaLink transmission system.
  • Provide maintenance planning and scheduling information to AltaLink Control Center staff.
  • Trouble response for station facilities in the area.
  • Assist and support other disciplines as required.
  • Assist the Substations team on capital upgrade and replacement work.
  • Develop and implement plans for substation work, including review and understanding of work packages and related work practices, procedures, policies, and regulations.
  • Ensure development and documentation of Safe Work Plans as required.
  • Coordinate and provide emergency response to system emergencies as required.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a related and recognized Technologist Diploma program, preferably Electrical Technology.
  • Power System Electrician Journeyman Certificate would be an asset.
  • Proven ability and experience in the above-noted responsibilities.
  • Competent and comfortable working with computers and spreadsheets.
  • Willing to develop skills and a career in the Substation Technologist discipline.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to work within strict deadlines.
  • Demonstrated willingness to work safely and show concern for environmental, health, and safety issues in the workplace.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and comfortable working at heights.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license.
  • Good physical condition, manual dexterity, and physical coordination.
  • Knowledge and adherence to safety practices, procedures, and standards.
  • Proven track record of good attendance and performance.
