Teaching Opportunity in Home Economics

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic professional educator to join our team as a Home Economics Teacher in Middle and Secondary Schools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach Home Economics and Life Skills courses to students in Middle and Secondary Schools
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Assume other teaching responsibilities in the core and/or elective areas commensurate with qualifications, experience, and interests
  • Collaborate with colleagues to implement BC's Education Plan and the Redesigned Curriculum
  • Participate in the implementation of the school level Collaborative Model of Support and work to develop the District Attributes for the 21st Century in all students
  • Use technology for planning, attendance monitoring, communication, classroom instruction, and reporting purposes

Requirements:

  • Training and/or experience as a Home Economics teacher
  • British Columbia Professional Teaching Certificate
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative/team environment
  • Ability to use technology for teaching and communication purposes

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Home Economics, Diploma of Home Ec, or equivalent
  • Two years of successful classroom teaching experience
  • Food Safe Certification and proficiency with sewing and food equipment
  • Training/experience in Quality Assessment practices
  • Strong background in middle school philosophy, core values, and educational practices
  • Strong interest in innovation and inquiry
  • Experience in differentiating and providing inclusive learning opportunities
  • Indigenous ancestry (as per Special Program with the BC Human Rights Tribunal)

Compensation:

The starting annual salary for this teaching position ranges from $57,972 to $106,217, with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement.
