As a key member of our team, reporting directly to the Production Manager, the Manufacturing Team Leader will provide essential guidance and oversight to the shift team engaged in the production of fibreglass insulation, ensuring adherence to the company's safety, quality, and production benchmarks while aligning with the core values and objectives of CertainTeed Insulation and Saint-Gobain Canada.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee a unionized workforce of operators and craftsmen during each shift.
  • Handle human resources matters within the team effectively.
  • Delegate tasks with clear expectations and deadlines.
  • Facilitate effective communication regarding events and issues with other shifts and management.
  • Ensure accurate reporting at the end of each shift, including safety and environmental incidents.
  • Champion the safety of operators and craftsmen on-site by utilizing safety audits, risk assessments, and Continuous Improvement tools to foster a robust safety culture.
  • Maintain a secure working environment by enforcing all safety protocols and standards.
  • Lead investigations into incidents using appropriate methodologies.
  • Implement the daily production schedule, supervising and coordinating the shift to ensure efficient and safe operations.
  • Verify that all quality tests are conducted to meet required standards.
  • Assist the shift team in troubleshooting through a Continuous Improvement Problem Solving approach.
  • Engage and mentor operators and craftsmen to enhance their skills.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the production floor to uphold high housekeeping standards.
  • Complete production documentation using software tools (Excel, SAP, MES).
  • Collaborate with Performance Teams to address daily operational issues promptly.
  • Identify training needs and provide constructive feedback to team members.
  • Foster a positive relationship between union and management, assisting in the administration of the collective agreement.
  • Validate shift working hours and manage overtime and shift coverage.
  • Lead or participate in various improvement initiatives in a dynamic environment.

Additional Duties:

  • Conduct team briefings on safety and operational topics.
  • Communicate effectively with other shift managers and the overall management team.
  • Organize and lead daily production meetings.

Qualifications:

  • A College Diploma in a technical discipline or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5-7 years of supervisory or managerial experience preferred.
  • Experience in a heavy industrial manufacturing setting is advantageous.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, team-building, coaching, and communication abilities.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
  • Familiarity with 5S and Continuous Improvement or Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with SAP is a plus.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts and weekends as necessary.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to wear required safety equipment.
  • Able to work 12-hour shifts, including weekends, in a 24/7 operational environment.
  • Capable of standing for extended periods and climbing stairs.
