Role OverviewWe are seeking a highly motivated and experienced investment professional to join our team in Calgary. As an Associate, you will play a key role in working with Directors and Managing Directors to source, analyze, and execute private equity, fund, and junior debt investments.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluate direct equity, fund investments, subordinated debt, and special opportunities
- Contribute to the planning and completion of due diligence
- Own financial modeling, including building and sensitizing LBO models
- Draft investment committee memos and materials
- Assist in legal documentation negotiation and review
- Monitor existing portfolio companies and prepare quarterly valuations
- Build relationships with Private Equity, Growth Equity, and Venture Capital Firms
- Collaborate with colleagues across BMO Financial Group, Canadian Commercial Banking, and Capital Markets
- Monitor investment trends, develop investment theses, and pitch on potential investment ideas
- Assist in special projects as required
- 2-4 years of experience in Investment Banking, Private Equity, Venture Capital, Fund Investing, Leveraged Finance, Restructuring, Transaction Advisory, or other relevant areas
- Deep understanding of capital structure and working knowledge of principal investing
- High level of proficiency in Excel and excellent financial modeling skills
- Ability to work independently on a number of concurrent transactions with limited direction
- Ability to navigate between industries with a deep understanding of the financing needs of private companies from early to mature stage
- Experience working in a multiple member deal team context
- Proactive attitude, mature, deep sense of ownership, and initiative
- CFA, CPA, CA, CBV designation, or MBA
- Experience in conducting due diligence
BMO Financial Group offers a competitive salary range of $95,000-$115,000 CAD, as well as performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, and other perks and rewards. We also offer health insurance, tuition reimbursement, accident and life insurance, and retirement savings plans.
