JOB DESCRIPTION
The Associate, ESG Investing will collaborate with the ESG Investing team and the Investment Team to further develop and execute Canada Post's Responsible Investment (RI) strategy. This position will emphasize public markets, and the ideal candidate should possess familiarity with the investment sector, including portfolio management, investment dealers or brokers, and public pension plans, as well as a solid understanding of capital markets.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assess potential public market investments, identifying and analyzing significant risks and opportunities related to specific ESG factors; assist in the evaluation of funds, companies, and transactions; support public market engagement activities, including proxy voting.
- Contribute to the preparation of Investment Memos.
- Establish relationships with potential target fund managers and key intermediaries; participate in meetings with internal and external managers to evaluate and assess responses regarding track record, strategy, and lessons learned to identify potential investment opportunities; assist in the management of investments, including developing direct relationships with fund and co-investment management teams.
- Support Portfolio Managers in creating and maintaining tools to ensure that ESG considerations are effectively integrated into the investment and monitoring activities of Canada Post's public market investments.
- Build and maintain internal databases, systems, and models while streamlining operational processes.
- Prepare ESG Reports for each investment in the portfolio; ensure data accuracy and timeliness of ESG analysis across portfolios; periodically update and manage ESG assessment criteria. Review information memorandums and management presentations.
- Assist in completing the ESG Due Diligence Template for new investment opportunities alongside other team members.
- Participate in Pension Investment team and ESG Working Group meetings, discussing ESG industry updates and providing valuable ESG insights across asset classes.
- Handle daily administrative tasks related to Canada Post's RI strategy.
- Prepare portfolio company reviews and other internal reports; perform administrative tasks such as filing, binder creation for new investments, and other ad hoc administration and reporting as required; support Pension Investment projects as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Completion of post-secondary (College/University) degree.
Experience: 1-3 years of experience in a similar role.
Other Candidate Requirements:
- General understanding of asset management and financial markets.
- Demonstrated interest in ESG investing.
- Prior experience conducting ESG analysis at a pension fund or asset manager is highly desirable.
- Proficient computer skills and strong competency with Microsoft Office programs, along with experience in Python and/or Excel macros.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
