Training Systems Architect

Montreal, Quebec, Canada CAE Full time

Overview of the Position

The Training Systems Architect is instrumental in shaping the global framework of training devices, ensuring alignment with comprehensive integrated training solution specifications by leveraging advanced technologies and industry trends.

Collaborating with a network of engineering specialists and subject matter experts, the architect is responsible for defining the architecture, estimating costs, and assessing risks throughout all phases of the program.

During the initial capture and proposal stages, the Training Systems Architect supports the business development and proposal teams in formulating a strategic solution to enhance the likelihood of contract acquisition. Once a contract is secured, they refine the solution, translate it into specific engineering components, and lead the critical design review (CDR) of the entire architecture. Following the CDR, the architect ensures compliance with the proposed technical solution, optimizing it to meet the customer's training requirements without incurring changes in scope or cost overruns.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the business development and proposal teams in defining the architecture of training devices during the bidding process.
  • Lead design initiatives and act as the primary design authority throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Employ CAE technologies and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) capabilities to design training devices that meet customer training needs and CAE's business goals. Analyze and interpret training and device specifications to create a compliant solution within the constraints of schedule, scope, and budget. Gather insights from various engineering teams and produce architectural schematics for training devices. Conduct trade studies to identify the best solutions, including the use of existing equipment, new designs, and third-party components. Establish the software architecture of the project and correlate it with physical components. Identify design issues that drive risk and cost, developing innovative solutions to mitigate risks while optimizing expenses. Define the structure of the training system in accordance with Customer Training Requirements. Develop solutions by leveraging available capabilities and technologies within the product catalog.
  • Participate in and support solution and cost evaluations throughout all design review phases.
  • Assess the system to ensure it meets specified performance criteria and training outcomes, such as flight performance, stability, weight, power, timing, human factors, and throughput. Collaborate with the architecture board to address any elements considered non-standard solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Technology.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in the design and development of aerospace, simulation, and training systems.
  • Familiarity with multidisciplinary engineering development methodologies.
  • Understanding of aircraft systems functionality, flight operation principles, and aviation regulations.
  • A background in Software Architecture is highly desirable.
  • Business acumen – experience in Business Development/Sales support, proposals, and execution.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with excellent presentation capabilities.
  • Proficiency in English; additional fluency in French is a plus.
  • Eligibility to obtain security clearance for access to confidential documents and compliance with relevant regulations.

What We Offer

  • A comprehensive benefits package that allows you to prioritize what matters most to you.
  • Retirement benefits including a Defined Benefits Retirement Plan and Group Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP).
  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan and various corporate discounts for financial advantages.
  • Programs for personal and family well-being, including a Physical Wellness Plan and Supplementary Maternity Plan.
  • Work-Life Balance initiatives such as flexible working hours and year-round initiatives.
  • Engaging social and community events throughout the year to foster a vibrant work environment.
