POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Culinary Specialist operates as an integral member of the dietary team under the supervision of the Nursing Services Manager, dedicated to delivering wholesome and visually appealing meals for residents and special events.
This role emphasizes maintaining a hygienic and orderly environment for food preparation and dining.
QualificationsEducation: AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (preferred)
Licence/Certification: Journeyman/Red Seal (required)
Work Location: In person
Key ResponsibilitiesPRIMARY DUTIES:
- Contributes to the achievement of organizational objectives.
- Completes responsibilities in accordance with safety, environmental, and infection control policies, ensuring a safe working environment for themselves, colleagues, and residents.
- Collaborates with team members to ensure high-quality resident care.
- Familiarizes themselves with the All Hazard Emergency Plan and understands their role in emergency situations.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding resident, employee, and organizational information.
- Reports to work as scheduled, adhering to shift start times and breaks.
- Works cooperatively with colleagues and supervisors, fostering a positive environment for residents, staff, and visitors.
- Serves as a resource for fellow team members and assists in onboarding new staff.
- Engages in ongoing self-assessment and identifies areas for personal and professional growth during performance evaluations.
- Participates in relevant training and applies learned principles effectively.
- Attends mandatory meetings and has opportunities to engage in committee work.
- Recognizes their own skill level and seeks guidance when necessary, following instructions consistently, especially in emergencies.
- Projects a professional and positive image.
- Prepares nutritious meals and snacks in accordance with the Canada Food Guide.
- Oversees quality control measures.
- Prepares food and snacks for special events as needed.
- Utilizes dietary equipment safely and maintains optimal sanitary practices.
- Manages food and material usage within budget constraints.
- Adapts to the hours and routines of assigned shifts.
- Work hours are in line with the collective agreement, as the facility operates 24/7, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- May be required to work overtime.
- May need to return to the facility in emergency situations as per the callback procedure.
- Knowledgeable about fire safety regulations and emergency protocols, understanding their responsibilities in such situations.
- Performs additional related duties as assigned by the Nursing Services Manager or designated personnel.
Job Types: Part-time, Permanent
