About This Role

Roseway Hospital (RH), located in Shelburne, is in search of family medicine practitioners to deliver inpatient hospital services for one week each month, including nightly on-call duties from Monday through Sunday night. The compensation is approximately $8000 per week (inclusive of on-call fees) within the Community Hospital In-patient Program. RH features 19 inpatient beds accommodating patients with varying levels of acuity, providing a fulfilling work environment. Physicians at RH collaborate closely with other healthcare facilities in the region.

The environment at RH is welcoming and collegial, where every staff member is recognized by name. The hospital is equipped with a 24-hour level 3 Emergency Department and offers a comprehensive range of primary and secondary services through inpatient, outpatient, and satellite programs, along with skilled nursing staff and a helipad for emergency airlift to Halifax.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities encompass, but are not limited to:

  • Management of your panel of hospitalist patients
  • Provision of care and coordination of community-based, secondary, and tertiary healthcare
  • Adherence to the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of Nova Scotia Health Authority
  • Participation in quality improvement and evaluation initiatives
Work Schedule

During your hospitalist week, you will be on call for your patients 24/7, typically with minimal overnight calls and rarely required to attend the hospital in the evening. The position necessitates coverage for 1 or 2 weeks per 4-week cycle (1:4 or 2:4). Should you wish, there is potential for additional weeks of hospitalist work as availability allows, along with possible opportunities in the primary care clinic, ER shifts, or locum positions in local family doctor offices during your off weeks.

Qualifications
  • All applicants must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
  • Eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)
  • Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA), or proof of alternative coverage
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
