Job Title: Health and Safety Advisor

Valard, a leading utility contractor and part of the Quanta Group, is seeking a Health and Safety Advisor to join their team. As a Health and Safety Advisor, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of Valard employees, contractors, and visitors on site.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide support to supervisors, foremen, and workers in the field to ensure compliance with Valard's Health and Safety Manual and applicable legislation.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain a safe work environment by ensuring all necessary safety procedures are in place and followed.
  • Investigate incidents and near-misses, and develop corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Communicate safety expectations and requirements to all site staff and ensure they are aware of their roles and responsibilities in maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Develop and maintain a safety board with current postings, including health and safety policies, inspection and audit results, and project hazard assessments.
  • Prepare and participate in audits, such as 18001 and COR, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Review and analyze incident reports to identify trends and develop corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Develop and maintain a corrective action log and communicate with project managers and supervisors to ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Facilitate weekly safety meetings, capture minutes, and action items, and follow up on action items to completion.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly safety reports and communicate with project managers and supervisors to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Requirements:
  • National Construction Safety Officer Certification or Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) College or University Certificate or diploma program.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Minimum 3 years Health and Safety experience in a construction environment.
  • Excellent incident investigation skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to perform under stressful conditions.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.
