We are currently seeking an Electrical Designer to join our team.
The Fuel Handling and Engineered Solutions division is engaged in the design, production, development, testing, parts supply, and servicing of on-power refueling, reactor maintenance, and nuclear medicine delivery tools utilized globally. We are the pioneering designers of automated systems that facilitate continuous on-power refueling of CANDU reactors, addressing some of the most complex challenges within the Nuclear Industry. Presently, our equipment is integral to the majority of nuclear power facilities in Canada, contributing to sustainable energy production and the provision of critical medical isotopes.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Design Services Manager, the Electrical Designer will support the technical direction of projects, collaborating with both external and internal stakeholders, including the Instrumentation and Controls Engineering department. The role involves the development and drafting of designs for automated and semi-automated systems.
The Design Services team employs tools such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, IntEC, and Inventor to produce concept drawings, detailed designs, elementary drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), wiring diagrams, and to offer design solutions for obsolete components like relays, motors, and circuit cards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Transform concept designs into detailed drawings and BOMs for equipment and sub-assemblies using CAD software including AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, and Autodesk Inventor.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary engineering environment alongside Professional Engineers and Technologists.
- Generate and revise general assembly drawings, interconnection block diagrams, functional block diagrams, cable assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, wiring lists, and BOMs.
- Select instrumentation, control, and power components in accordance with engineering specifications.
- Engage in design reviews and participate in customer meetings, providing relevant design input and resources.
- Coordinate with customer design and operations teams to collect site-specific design information.
- Assist colleagues on specific projects as needed.
- Ensure accountability for cost and schedule on assigned projects.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD is essential; experience with AutoCAD Electrical and Inventor is advantageous.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, suitable for a diverse audience.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with team members.
- Solid understanding of fundamental drafting techniques.
- Capacity to multitask and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Competence in control system design and related processes.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills, analytical abilities, and demonstrated leadership capabilities.
- Familiarity with Intec or online wiring is a plus.
- Experience with 3D parametric modeling is beneficial.
- Broad understanding of interdisciplinary departments including mechanical, software design, systems engineering, and manufacturing.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in electrical systems design, with prior experience in electrical and controls design drafting.
- Background in the CANDU Nuclear Industry.
- Certification as an Engineering Technologist (CET) or higher qualification.
- Membership in OACETT or another certifying body.
- Strong communication, presentation, and technical writing skills.
- General knowledge of Engineering Change Control (ECC) concepts applicable to the nuclear industry or other sectors.
