Position Overview:
Reporting to the Senior Operations Finance Manager, you will be instrumental in providing operational support throughout the organization. As the Senior Project Accountant, you will be an essential member of the corporate services team, facilitating proactive project accounting, managing invoicing and collections, and ensuring alignment with corporate strategies and policies.
Location Flexibility: This role allows for flexibility in location across our established office sites.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Educational Background: A minimum of a two-year diploma in Accounting or a related discipline. CPA designation is advantageous.
- Professional Experience: At least 3 to 5 years in project accounting or related fields, or a comparable mix of education and experience.
- Software Proficiency: Familiarity with Deltek Vision software is a plus.
- Technical Competencies: Strong skills in accounts receivable, invoicing, and project reviews and analysis.
- Analytical Skills: Exceptional analytical abilities with a keen eye for detail.
- MS Office Skills: Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and administrative capabilities, adept at managing multiple priorities.
- Communication Skills: Ability to engage with challenging callers diplomatically, alongside excellent oral and written communication skills in English and French.
- Professional Environment Experience: Experience in a professional services setting is preferred.
- Team and Independent Work: Able to work effectively both collaboratively and independently.
- Driver's License: A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle with current registration and insurance are required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Management: Initiate new projects, define billing terms, set phases, and finalize projects upon completion within our accounting system.
- Financial Oversight: Conduct project costing, revenue, and budget assessments, along with revenue recognition and work-in-progress evaluations.
- Contract Management: Assist in managing project contracts and ensuring proper documentation.
- Invoicing and Collections: Oversee the invoicing and collections process by preparing and issuing monthly project invoices to clients, reconciling incoming client payments, and managing accounts receivable.
- Communication and Coordination: Engage in internal communications with project managers, prepare billing and payment summaries, respond to inquiries from project managers and clients, and update the accounting system with Purchase Orders (P.O.s). Follow established accounts receivable processes, including client communication via calls, emails, and statements.
- Reporting and Analysis: Manage backlog and pipeline reporting, analyze financial data, and identify opportunities for enhancing financial and operational practices to improve report accuracy and timeliness for stakeholders.
- Account Reconciliation: Reconcile General Ledger accounts.
- Additional Responsibilities: Undertake other duties and project work as assigned.
