Job Summary:

The City of Whitehorse is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our aquatic team as a Lifeguard. As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of pool patrons, providing emergency care, and maintaining water quality.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor pool users and enforce established standards of conduct and decorum, respond to major and minor emergency situations, and respond to enquiries from the public while following established safety and emergency procedures.
  • Perform light custodial maintenance and minor repairs to the facility and equipment.
  • Assist in the inventory and stocking of first aid and program supplies.
  • Perform water tests and keep maintenance records.
  • Under the direction of the Aquatic Supervisor, assist in implementing specialized aquatic activities and events.
  • Attend seasonal in-service to maintain standards.
  • Act as Head Guard as assigned.
  • Follow established safety procedures and standards.
  • Other related duties.

Working Conditions:

Exposure to constant noise, extreme temperatures when in and out of the water, and humidity in the pool environment.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Grade 10 or 16 years of age.
  • Lifeguard experience an asset.
  • National Lifeguard Pool Certification Option (NL).
  • Standard First Aid/CPR Level C Certification.
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems certification (WHMIS).
  • RCMP Vulnerable Sector Check.

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
