Position Overview:
The Senior Special Projects Engineer is tasked with delivering specialized engineering services that include inspection, condition evaluations, safety infrastructure, emergency response, investigations, monitoring, planning input, analysis, and design.

Reporting Structure:
This role reports directly to the Executive Director of Planning and Delivery, providing essential engineering support for planning and vertical infrastructure capital projects based on data gathered from site inspections and building condition evaluations. The position also involves direct supervision of Engineers and Technologists.

Employment Conditions:

  • Must possess legal authorization to work in Canada.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with the relevant provincial association.
  • Willingness to travel within the province by various means.
  • Must hold a valid Class 5 driver's license without restrictions.
  • Ability to travel with overnight accommodations.
  • Must provide personal transportation within the province.

Qualifications:
Essential:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Appropriate scope-of-practice in building construction and related systems.
  • Experience in interpreting construction plans, specifications, and contract documents, with a focus on mechanical engineering systems and design practices.
  • Proficient in data collection and analysis.
  • Experience in Project Management and developing technical documentation to facilitate project planning and execution.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory capabilities, including planning, assigning, monitoring, and overseeing the work of professional and technical staff.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying information effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of Workplace Safety and Health practices.

Desired:
  • Experience in developing Facility Condition Indexes or Building Condition Assessments.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation or equivalent is advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be responsible for:
  • Overseeing the creation and implementation of Facility Condition Indexes utilizing data from inspections and assessments to prioritize capital projects for various client groups.
  • Managing and delegating inspection and estimation services for data collection and scope determination for capital projects.
  • Administering project budgets and expenditures to ensure deliverables are met within the designated financial authority.
  • Guiding and supervising the work of external consultants on mechanical or multi-disciplinary projects, while developing departmental standards and specifications.
  • Presenting and defending engineering work to various audiences, while developing solutions to issues and making recommendations to support decision-making.
