We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Physician Assistant to join our team at Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. As a Physician Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care under the supervision of a fully licensed physician.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Provide inpatient and outpatient care to patients with cancer, including hematology, oncology, gynecology, radiation, and medical oncology services.
- Liaise with nurses, house staff, attending staff, and other healthcare team members to develop and implement patient care plans.
- Perform procedures within the scope of your demonstrated competence and privileges, including insertion of peripheral IV lines, taking blood samples, inserting Foley catheters, removing central lines, and performing wound care.
- Collaborate with oncology teams to arrange investigations and follow-up care for patients receiving chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
- Communicate with patients, families, referring physicians, and other healthcare providers to ensure seamless care coordination.
- Provide emotional support and counseling to patients and their families, particularly those dealing with terminal illnesses.
- Participate in on-call responsibilities and contribute to educational sessions and rounds as time permits.
We are looking for a candidate who meets the following requirements:
- Must meet the requirements to obtain a Clinical Assistant License from The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.
- Must have obtained (in writing) Review of Qualifications from The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia prior to application deadline.
- CMPA coverage is required.
- ACLS certification is required.
- Good command of written and spoken English is essential.
- Must be able to promote and maintain good interpersonal skills.
- Completion of the equivalence of a rotating internship and postgraduate training in oncology is an asset, but not essential.
- Physical demand: Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and perform duties as outlined above.
- Mental and Visual demand: High; must be able to deal with stressful situations.
- Permanent, Full-time position.
- 8:00 am to 6:00 pm; 48 hours per week inclusive of on-call participation.
$65.81 Hourly.
