Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Engineer to join our team at Burns & McDonnell. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for creating world-class designs for grassroots and revamp/brown field refining and chemical projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with design teams to develop I&C plans, adapting to assigned budget, schedule, engineering/design standards, and client requirements.
  • Prepare instrumentation engineering/design deliverables, including Instrument Index, Instrument Data Sheets, Instrument Installation Details, Instrument Location Plans, Wiring Diagrams, and Loop Diagrams.
  • Develop control systems (DCS and/or PLC) and Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) Data Sheets.
  • Manage third-party control system suppliers to comply with control system design requirements, including participating in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
  • Prepare I&C purchase specifications, review bids, make technical recommendations, and manage the overall purchase, review of I&C packages, and review of vendor documentation.
  • Develop P&ID's for various projects.
  • Perform process measurements such as temperature, pressure, flow, level, analyzers, and control valves.
  • Preliminary sizing calculations for instruments such as orifice plates, controls valves, relief valves, and thermowells.
Requirements
  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and 3 years of applicable engineering experience, consulting preferred.
  • Master Degree in above Engineering programs or related and 2 years of applicable engineering experience, consulting preferred.
  • Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Proficient in Smart Plant instrumentation (SPI) in the development of instrument datasheets.
  • Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Engineers in Training-EIT Certification Preferred.
