POSITION OVERVIEW:
The City of Maple Ridge is looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Accounting Operations Manager to join our finance team. Reporting directly to the Deputy Director of Finance, this crucial position is responsible for overseeing the City's accounting operations, which include managing accounts payable and receivable, preparing internal financial reports, compiling the City's consolidated financial statements, and coordinating the annual audit process. You will ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting while adhering to regulatory standards.

In this role, you will lead a dedicated team of accounting professionals, implement effective financial controls, and provide strategic financial insights that align with the City's objectives. This position offers a dynamic work environment, requiring independent judgment in managing accounting operations. Major issues will be discussed collaboratively with a superior to ensure informed decision-making.

Additionally, you will prepare strategic and administrative recommendations and collaborate closely with other managers to enhance understanding of departmental functions and develop cross-training opportunities. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A minimum of 5 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity, with substantial experience in progressively responsible accounting roles, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Extensive knowledge of municipal finance, accounting, and auditing principles, practices, and systems.
  • Thorough understanding of policies, procedures, by-laws, regulations, and acts governing departmental functions and operations.
  • Proficiency in preparing various accounting, statistical, and financial statements, reports, and returns, and interpreting applicable by-laws, regulations, acts, and policies.
  • Strong knowledge of public administration practices and procedures relevant to the work performed.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing a variety of business software systems and computer data processing systems to meet departmental needs.
  • Familiarity with the functions, operations, and requirements of other finance sections and municipal departments as they relate to accounting.
  • Ability to effectively plan, direct, and coordinate departmental operations while adhering to established deadlines and statutory requirements.
  • Skills in planning, assigning, supervising, evaluating, and reviewing the work of direct reports, including motivating, mentoring, and facilitating their career development.
  • Ability to initiate, review, analyze, evaluate, and implement new accounting standards, policies, procedures, and operating systems and controls.
  • Ability to collaborate on strategic initiatives, policy, and operational matters related to the department.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills demonstrated through the ability to facilitate, mediate, network, research, analyze, and resolve issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in delivering presentations.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.

LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES
Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.

HOURS OF WORK:
80 hours Bi-Weekly.
