About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager of Software Development to lead our team of talented computer scientists, software developers, and applied mathematicians in the design, development, and test of GPU libraries for high performance computing and machine learning workloads as part of the AMD Radeon Open Ecosystem (ROCm).

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership: Manage the day-to-day activities of the team within an Agile/Scrum environment, ensuring the successful delivery of software projects.
  • Strategic Planning: Work closely with senior developers, architects, and stakeholders to develop a long-term strategy and feature backlogs for your libraries and translate that into achievable road maps and project plans in an Agile environment.
  • Process Development: Establish a software development process that spans the entire software development life cycle and work with your engineers and key stakeholders from QA, DevOps, and program management to establish and continuously improve that process.
  • Technical Design: Work with senior developers and architects to develop the best technical designs and approaches.
  • Project Management: Manage, execute, and report progress against project plans and delivery commitments.
  • Process Improvement: Build and track metrics to proactively drive process improvement.
  • Talent Development: Hire, mentor, and develop software engineers.
Requirements
  • Leadership Experience: Proven leadership skills and a history of delivering software projects.
  • Technical Expertise: Extensive hands-on programming experience in C or C++.
  • Software Engineering Knowledge: Knowledge of professional software engineering practices and best practices for the full software development life cycle including requirements elicitation and analysis, scoping/estimation, coding standards, code reviews, version control, build processes, testing, and continuous integration.
  • Agile Methodology: Experience managing the day-to-day activities of an engineering team using Agile methods.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications: One or more of the following:
    • Experience developing GPU-based parallel computing software using HIP, CUDA, or OpenCL.
    • A strong foundation in computational linear algebra and numerical methods and their applications in high performance computing and machine learning.
    • Experience implementing communication frameworks and libraries, including MPI, SHMEM, and/or UCX/libfabrics.
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree: B.Sc. or B.Eng. degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or equivalent.
  • Advanced Degree: Advanced degrees, such as M.Sc., M.Eng., Ph.D. are preferred.
