We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager to join our GRM International Banking Retail Credit Risk team at Scotiabank. This is a pivotal role that requires a strong understanding of portfolio management and risk assessment.
Key Responsibilities- Portfolio Monitoring and Reporting: Maintain effective monitoring and reporting on country performance trends and results in relation to targets. Consider origination trends and portfolio issues by product, channel, segment, and specific programs as developed from time to time. Overlay the impact of any political, economic, environmental, and social concerns affecting the business.
- Stakeholder Communication: Socialize findings with stakeholders, including future impacts to losses and proposed recommendations to Management. Prepare updates for Executive, Regional Management, and other IB stakeholders.
- Emerging Trends Identification: Utilize local information and MIS to gain understanding of results. Work with GRM partners to promptly identify emerging trends that can impact portfolio performance.
- Executive Communication: Provide month-end and quarter-end executive communication on portfolio trends, identifying and explaining any concerns or deviations.
- Market and Regulatory Awareness: Remain on top of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology.
- Collaborative Relationships: Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including country managers in Toronto and senior leaders in the countries, to assist executive communication, explanation of deviations, portfolio reviews, and delivering quarter-end and month-end reports.
- Credit Policy Development: Ensure credit policies and procedures are created to balance risk and growth for retail portfolios through ongoing monitoring to key risk measures. Provide counsel on opportunities to expand business where appropriate.
- Regulatory Compliance: Assist site in meeting local regulatory requirements from a credit and operational perspective. This would include the assessment and installation of effective controls over lending policies, centralized processes for fulfillment of credit, and collections management.
- Policy Formalization: Formalize local originations, accounts management, and collections policies and its compliance with established Global Risk Policies and make recommendations.
- Best Practices Benchmarking: Deliver continuous benchmark of best practices across the region, of current local policies aiming to find opportunities to standardize the credit approach across the region in order to drive benefits and close gaps accordingly.
- Strategic Analysis: Lead the side-by-side analysis to compare strategies among sites and provide insight and recommendations to set the divisional standard for credit practices.
- Risk Culture and Appetite: Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Exceptional Communication Skills: Exceptional communication skills and ability to summarize and present insights in succinct and logical manner.
- Minimum 5 Years of Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in risk/portfolio management area with a successful track record of success in leading and implementing change in the financial services sector.
- Knowledge of Customer Segmentation: Knowledge of customer segmentation, credit scoring models, including behavioral, custom, and credit bureau scores, marketing models (attrition/retention) and their respective validation process.
- Project Management Skills: Project management skills to prioritize and balance different priorities at the same time, with a successful track record of success in leading and implementing change in banking initiatives.
- Strong Leadership Skills: Strong leadership/innovative and motivational skills are required in order to influence change.
- Financial Analysis Skills: Exposure to the projection of delinquency rates, loan loss provisions, and recoveries.
- Strong Negotiating Skills: Strong negotiating and networking skills in conducting day-to-day activities.
- Language Skills: Fluency in Spanish an asset (not mandatory).
- Graduate Degree: Graduate degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or related field an asset.
