Canada PEDIATRIC EMERGENCY STANDARDS INC Full time

Competition Number

2024-ONA-025

Job Type

Part-time Permanent

Hours

0.50 FTE

Classification

NP

Department

Emergency

Salary

$62.83 to $66.95 per hour

As per ONA Collective Agreement

Description

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) plays a crucial role within the Emergency team, tasked with delivering initial medical care and treatment to patients in a collaborative environment. The care approach is founded on evidence-based best practices.

The Pediatric Emergency Nurse Practitioner is an essential medical professional who collaborates with physicians and other healthcare team members during medical crises. The NP will assist doctors, perform minor medical interventions, and provide care for patients facing critical injuries, allergic reactions, or trauma.

PEDIATRIC EMERGENCY STANDARDS INC is seeking an NP to enhance the operations of the NP Service, which extends the capabilities of the Emergency Department. Patients arriving at the ED, assessed as less urgent, with a Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS) score of 4 or 5 (and occasionally CTAS 3), will be directed to the NP Service. This innovative service has significantly improved wait times, optimized discharge processes for lower acuity cases, and enhanced patient satisfaction, ultimately increasing bed availability for critically ill patients. As the organization continues to prioritize patient care and adapt to evolving demands, the NP Service represents a significant advancement, providing an efficient pathway for patients seeking non-emergency assistance.

If this opportunity aligns with your qualifications and you believe you would be a suitable candidate, we encourage you to apply and share your insights on why you would excel in this role. While we cannot guarantee outcomes, we will consider your qualifications and the potential you bring. PEDIATRIC EMERGENCY STANDARDS INC is committed to ongoing professional development and continuing education opportunities to enhance skills and work experience.

Why Work with PEDIATRIC EMERGENCY STANDARDS INC? Here are some benefits of joining our team:

  • Enrollment in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan, one of Canada's largest defined benefit pension plans, offering inflation protection, survivor benefits, buyback options, and early retirement opportunities.
  • Pay in lieu of vacation and benefits provided.
  • A third-party partnered, self-directed benefits package through Health Care Providers (HCP) Group Insurance, including customizable health and dental plans, life insurance, long-term disability benefits (LTD), and accidental death, disease, and dismemberment (ADD&D) based on eligibility.
  • Access to staff physiotherapy, onsite gym, Employee Assistance Program, staff wellness initiatives, and more.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Nursing.
  • Current Registration in the NP class from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Preference for candidates with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in critical care nursing, either in an emergency room or acute care setting.
  • Current Certification in BCLS with demonstrated ongoing competence through annual re-certification.
  • Completion of a basic cardiac rhythm interpretation course with ongoing competence (LWDH Basic Dysrhythmia course or equivalent).
  • Current Certification in ACLS with demonstrated ongoing competence through biannual re-certification.
  • Current Certification in Blood Glucose Monitoring with demonstrated ongoing competence through annual re-certification.
  • Current Certification in TNCC or willingness to obtain.
  • Current certification in PALS and/or ENPC or willingness to obtain.
  • Certification in IV Therapy with demonstrated ongoing competence.
  • Certification in CPI or willingness to obtain.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of a multicultural community and diverse populations.
  • Ability to thrive in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team setting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the capability to engage with both external and internal stakeholders.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and proficiency in current nursing procedures, assessments, and treatment protocols.
  • Reliable attendance record.

Please apply through the online application process.

We appreciate all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for further consideration will be contacted. First consideration will be given to current internal employees.

Qualified applicants may be considered for other comparable positions within the same classification.

Please prepare your application in accordance with the qualifications outlined in the job advertisement. Applications will be screened based on the posted qualifications.
