Selkirk, Manitoba, Canada Canadian Armed Forces Full time

Overview: Are you enthusiastic about communication technologies and intrigued by the prospect of analyzing electronic communications? As a Communications Intelligence Intern with the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), you will become a key resource in the field of electronic transmission analysis.

Role Responsibilities: Communications Intelligence Interns are tasked with intercepting and evaluating electronic communications, including international transmissions. Additionally, they play a crucial role in safeguarding the computer networks of the Government of Canada.

Key Requirements:

  • Must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident residing in Canada.
  • Minimum age requirement is 18 years (17 years with parental consent); for certain educational programs, candidates may be as young as 16 years (with parental consent).
  • For the Primary Reserve, candidates may also be 16 years old (with parental consent) and must be enrolled as a full-time student.

Work Environment: Communications Intelligence Interns handle highly sensitive information within a secure, restricted-access environment. The role typically involves shift work.

Training: The initial phase of training includes the Basic Military Qualification course, also known as Basic Training, which is conducted at various military training facilities across Canada. This foundational training equips you with essential skills and knowledge applicable to all military trades.

Following Basic Training, recruits will attend a military training center for the Basic Military Qualification – Land Course, which lasts approximately one month and covers:

  • Individual Field Craft
  • Communications Intelligence Specialist Training

Communications Intelligence Specialists will then proceed to the Canadian Forces School of Communications and Electronics for an extensive 45-week training program, which includes:

  • Communications Data Systems
  • Specialized Training Opportunities

As you advance in your career, you may be offered opportunities for further specialized training based on your demonstrated abilities and potential.

Experience Requirements: No prior work experience or specific career-related skills are necessary. A recruiter will assist you in determining if your interests align with this role.

If you possess a university or college diploma, the CAF will evaluate whether your academic background meets the criteria for this position, potentially allowing you to enter the necessary on-the-job training program after Basic Training.

Employment Structure:

Successful candidates will join either the Regular Force (full-time employment) or the Primary Reserve Force (part-time employment) of the Canadian Armed Forces.

Regular Force: Upon completing all required training, you will be assigned to your first military base. While there is some flexibility regarding postings, relocations may be necessary at various points in your career.

Primary Reserve Force: You will join a specific Reserve unit, which will serve as your workplace on a part-time basis. You will not be required to relocate to a different base.

As a member of the Primary Reserve Force, you can expect to work one night per week and some weekends, with the possibility of transitioning to full-time employment.
