Job Summary:

The Student Financial Services Advisor is a key member of the Glendon Student Financial Services team at York University. This role is responsible for providing expert advice and support to students on financial aid, scholarships, and bursaries. The incumbent will work closely with students, faculty, and staff to ensure that students have access to the financial resources they need to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise students on financial aid options, including government loans, grants, and scholarships
  • Process and evaluate student financial aid applications, ensuring compliance with university and government regulations
  • Resolve student account discrepancies and handle appeals and exceptions
  • Collaborate with the Manager, Glendon SFS and other colleagues to develop outreach materials and promote financial literacy among students
  • Assist in the administration of Glendon awards and evaluation activities related to strategic enrollment management

Requirements:

  • One to two years of recent experience in a bilingual post-secondary institution, preferably in a high-volume student service area
  • Experience providing complex information to students, presenting information to groups and individuals, and advising students
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently under pressure
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with OSAP, Prêt et bourses de Quebec, and other loan programs
  • Bilingualism in English and French, with a minimum of Bilingual Module I (Advanced) and IV (Advanced)
