On-Site Security Officer

Position Overview:

The on-site security officer will deliver a range of services, executing the security objectives of the Courthouse in accordance with established policies and procedures. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following tasks:

  • Ensure the safety of individuals and their belongings within Courthouse premises.
  • Prevent and mitigate incidents of fire, theft, vandalism, criminal damage, and unauthorized access.
  • Enforce parking regulations, including the tagging and towing of unauthorized vehicles, and coordinating snow removal services.
  • Conduct minor repairs on parking gate access systems as needed.
  • Restrict access to secure areas of the Courthouse to authorized personnel only.
  • Perform regular patrols of both interior and exterior areas of the Courthouse, documenting conditions, safety concerns, and weather observations as required.
  • Uphold the Courthouse's smoke-free property policies.
  • Monitor security systems, including access control, secure elevators, and CCTV surveillance.
  • Verify identification for visitors and employees.
  • Respond promptly to alarms and security incidents.
  • Complete incident reports, logs, and daily operational documentation.
  • Issue and manage access cards and keys for personnel, contractors, and visitors as necessary.
  • Lock and unlock doors according to schedule or as required.
  • Report any unusual occurrences or hazardous conditions immediately.
  • Maintain a detailed log of security incidents and report findings accordingly.
  • Document, secure, and manage lost and found items.
  • Provide safety escort services to emergency contractors on Courthouse property when necessary.
  • Notify Courthouse staff of any incidents that require immediate attention.
  • Assist with managing aggressive visitors, both physically and verbally.
  • Attend to any events or incidents that may pose a threat to the security of the facility while delivering excellent customer service.
  • Assist in the management of illicit substances or weapons, securing any found items while awaiting further assistance.
  • Document all events in a notebook or electronic incident report.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of One Year of Experience in Security
  • Proficient in English (both oral and written)
  • Vulnerable Sector Check Required
Certification Requirements:
  • At least 1 year of security experience
  • First Aid and CPR Level C Certification
  • COVID Double Vaccination Required
  • Valid Ontario Security License
