MRI Technologist, Medical Imaging
As a key member of the medical imaging team, the MRI Technologist is responsible for conducting magnetic resonance imaging examinations in alignment with established departmental protocols. This role encompasses a variety of tasks including managing requisitions, inputting data into the radiology information system, preparing examination trays, and ensuring patient readiness for procedures. The technologist operates advanced imaging equipment, processes and archives acquired data, and monitors patient conditions throughout the imaging process.
Key Responsibilities
Execute MRI examinations in compliance with standard operating procedures, which includes completing necessary documentation, correlating clinical histories with imaging requirements, positioning patients accurately, and explaining procedures. Administer venipuncture for contrast media injections as instructed by the Radiologist, operate imaging equipment, and ensure all records are accurately labeled while verifying technical results adhere to departmental standards. Observe and monitor patients during imaging procedures, responding to any potential reactions to contrast media or other emergencies in accordance with facility protocols; may necessitate performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation in critical situations. Conduct imaging studies utilizing MRI technology and departmental systems by verifying patient identification, collating images with requisitions, and retrieving previous studies as needed. Report any equipment malfunctions to the Supervisor. Enhance workflow efficiency within the designated area by ensuring requisition information meets departmental criteria, managing inpatient examination durations, and coordinating with facility porters as necessary. Perform quality control tasks, including scheduling and executing equipment tests per manufacturer guidelines, documenting results, and identifying equipment requiring repairs. Notify the Supervisor of any quality control concerns for appropriate action.Qualifications
Certification with CAMRT in Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Completion of an Intravenous Therapy training course as required by site practices, along with a minimum of one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and training. Current Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). At least two years of recent, relevant experience in a pediatric setting.Additional Attributes:
In-depth understanding of practice standards and guidelines for Medical Imaging professionals as established by CAMRT or other relevant national organizations. Knowledge of evidence-based practices related to MRI. Familiarity with organizational policies, procedures, and standards of care, including safe operational practices with imaging equipment. Comprehensive understanding of current MRI theories and practices within a family-centered care model. Commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action and their relevance to healthcare. Strong commitment to fostering reconciliation in Canada as outlined by the TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act. Familiarity with the social, economic, and historical contexts affecting Indigenous communities, as well as knowledge of Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism initiatives.What We Offer
