Job Summary

The Instrumentation and Automation Specialist is a critical role within Emergent BioSolutions Inc., responsible for the installation, modification, testing, troubleshooting, repair, predictive and preventive maintenance, removal, and replacement of complex analytical equipment and instrumentation for production and laboratory equipment. This position requires a high level of technical expertise and knowledge of various types of control valves, transmitters, and other equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  1. • Ensure quality and accuracy in day-to-day activities, adhering to regulatory requirements and company standards.
  2. • Perform complex instrument calibration and adjustments to specifications set through procedures and calibration requirements.
  3. • Diagnose, service, calibrate, and repair all production, non-production, and test equipment, and perform predictive and preventative maintenance.
  4. • Provide expertise as a subject matter expert (SME) by understanding the implications of work and making recommendations for solutions; support CAPEX projects.
  5. • Support deviation reviews, corrective action and preventative actions (CAPAs), and change controls, including root cause analysis and corrective actions for OOC events.
  6. • Determine methods and procedures on new work assignments.
  7. • Analyze results and may develop test specifications and electrical schematics.
  8. • Propose improvements to work processes, efficiency, and quality.
  9. • Specify and request purchase of components; maintain spare parts inventory.

Requirements

  1. • Technical diploma in Instrumentation and Control Engineering Technology, Instrumentation Engineering Technology, or equivalent is required.
  2. • Accredited technician or technologist from a Canadian Association such as the Certified Technicians and Technologists Association of Manitoba (CTTAM) is strongly preferred.
  3. • 6+ years of related experience is required.
  4. • Experience working in a regulated environment is considered highly beneficial; knowledge or ability to learn pharmaceutical regulatory requirements is required (e.g. cGMPs, ICH guidance, Eudralex, etc.).
  5. • Previous experience in using a Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) is required; experience with SAP Plant Maintenance, DeltaV, and PLC systems is strongly preferred.
  6. • Knowledge of equipment, facilities, standards, techniques, policies, and processes.
  7. • Familiar with the concept of world-class maintenance and best practices.
  8. • Strong understanding of Operational Excellence and Lean Manufacturing methodology.
  9. • Ability to read, understand, and follow standard operating procedures, protocols, work instructions, and other policies/procedures.
  10. • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing.
  11. • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Products such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
