About the Role

The Manitoba Government is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Investigator to join our team. As an Investigator, you will play a critical role in ensuring that the public service is accountable and transparent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough and impartial investigations into complaints and allegations of wrongdoing
  • Review and analyze complex evidence, legislation, and policy to inform investigations and recommendations
  • Develop and implement effective strategies to resolve complaints and improve public programs and services
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including public bodies, trustees, and the public, to ensure that investigations are conducted in a fair and transparent manner
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and recommendations for the Ombudsman's consideration

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree in a relevant field, such as public administration, law, or social sciences
  • Several years of experience in a related field, including conducting investigations, audits, or research
  • Advanced experience interpreting and applying legislation and policy
  • Exceptional problem-solving, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with parties of differing backgrounds and interests
  • Ability to represent the Office with integrity and promote ethical behavior
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare comprehensive reports and recommendations

Desirable Qualifications

  • Knowledge and understanding of the role of the Ombudsman and its mandates under The Ombudsman Act, FIPPA, PHIA, and PIDA
  • Understanding of the Principles of Procedural Fairness and Natural Justice and the Principles of Fair Information Practices
  • Experience working in the public sector, health care sector, municipal governments, or non-profit sector
  • Ability to communicate in French
