Position Overview
Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to become a vital part of our healthcare team.
As an LPN at VCH, you will engage in a collaborative approach to healthcare, working alongside an interdisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive care to clients within the community. Your role will involve:
- Providing integrated care across various locations, clinics, and outreach services, ensuring a holistic approach to primary care clients.
- Supporting clients and their families facing health challenges, while seeking guidance from Registered Nurses (RNs), Registered Psychiatric Nurses (RPNs), Nurse Practitioners (NPs), or Physicians (MDs) when necessary.
- Participating in direct care activities, including assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of client care, in collaboration with other community care services.
- Building and nurturing therapeutic relationships with clients based on mutual respect.
- Empowering clients and their families to achieve and maintain optimal health outcomes.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Completion of a recognized Practical Nurse program and current registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- A minimum of one year of relevant experience or completion of a full clinical placement in a community setting, focusing on holistic mental health, substance use, or primary care.
- A valid BC Driver's License is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- In-depth understanding of various healthcare disciplines and their roles in client care.
- Proven ability to handle diverse situations requiring initiative, creativity, and professional judgment.
- Capability to assess clients at risk and familiarity with relevant legislation, such as the Mental Health Act and Public Health Act.
- Experience in providing culturally safe and competent care, particularly for Indigenous populations.
- Knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice, Harm Reduction, and Recovery Oriented Care.
- Familiarity with the standards set by the BCCNM for Licensed Practical Nurses.
- Comprehensive understanding of community resources and policies.
- Demonstrated decision-making and analytical skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Competence in managing conflict situations.
- Effective planning, organization, and prioritization of work tasks.
- Physical capability to perform the duties required by the position.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Word, Microsoft Outlook) and clinical techniques.
- Skill in CPR techniques and the use of computerized client care information systems.

The work schedule, including days off and specific duties, may vary based on operational needs. Successful candidates may need to undergo a Criminal Records Review Check.
