OVERVIEW

The Sanitation Technician is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness of the refinery and packaging areas, as well as managing the return of scrap materials to the designated storage area. This entry-level role offers a competitive wage of $24.10/hour, with opportunities for advancement into other manufacturing roles starting at $34.03/hour after completing the probationary period.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of packaging and processing facility floors and equipment.
  • Eliminate dust and debris from operational areas.
  • Conduct cleaning of both food contact and non-food contact equipment (such as fans and electrical pans), as well as structural components (ceilings, walls, drains, and floors) following specific cleaning protocols.
  • Handle and dispose of scrap sugar bags weighing up to 20 kg (40 kg with assistance).
  • Efficiently maneuver large carts filled with rejected sugar.
  • Operate powered hand trucks loaded with sugar.
  • Utilize mops to clean extensive floor areas.
  • Employ floor washing equipment for large surface areas.
  • Adhere to established GMP Standards, Food Safety, and Health & Safety policies while performing all duties.
  • Complete varied job tasks across multiple locations within the facility, with potential for special assignments based on operational needs.
  • Report any unsanitary conditions to the Sanitation Supervisor.
  • Follow sanitation protocols diligently.
  • Maintain accurate records and tracking as required by the sanitation department.
  • Execute cleaning tasks as scheduled by the Supervisor and assist in training other team members as directed.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • Ability to follow straightforward instructions.
  • Capability to perform routine and varied tasks.
  • Experience operating packaging machinery and powered hand trucks.
  • Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One year of experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with dry/wet cleaning processes and chemical properties.
  • Understanding of WHMIS and commitment to safety and good manufacturing practices.
  • Ability to work effectively in teams.
  • Demonstrate safe and conscientious work habits with minimal supervision.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment requiring attention to detail and effective multitasking.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Regular physical exertion is required.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move items weighing up to 20 kg.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Capability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb stairs.
  • Must be able to see and handle products, machinery, and tools.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Regular exposure to allergens such as peanuts, tree nuts, sulfites, soya, dairy, egg, gluten, and sesame.
  • Occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, including slippery surfaces.
  • Potential exposure to high temperatures and noise levels exceeding 85 decibels; hearing protection is mandatory.
  • May require handling of chemicals necessitating the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory protection.
