Patient Flow Operations Manager

Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Alberta Health Services Full time

Your Role:

The Integrated Operations Center (IOC) represents a pioneering initiative within Alberta Health Services, designed to enhance the efficiency of patient management across the healthcare system. The IOC functions as a central hub, akin to an "air traffic control center," where healthcare professionals and data converge to facilitate timely and informed decisions regarding patient transitions throughout the health zone. This center is dedicated to monitoring patient flow and identifying bottlenecks, enabling proactive interventions that ensure high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

In collaboration with the Manager of EZ-IOC Demand Capacity, the Patient Flow Operations Manager plays a vital role in championing best practices in patient flow optimization, safety, and demand/capacity strategies at both the zone and system levels. This position is integral to the core team operating within the IOC, focusing on:

  • Overseeing zone-wide demand capacity management and facilitating real-time patient flow improvements.
  • Leading demand capacity discussions and resolving issues that arise between various sites and services.
  • Enhancing acute care access for patients through effective partnerships with relevant services.
  • Analyzing patient flow data and escalating concerns to ensure swift resolutions.
  • Collaborating with zone leadership to address challenges that hinder patient movement.

This role is pivotal in driving innovation and process enhancements, integrating key operational elements and best practices across the healthcare system. Team members are expected to work a combination of regular and flexible hours to support the IOC's continuous operations and improvements.

Qualifications:

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster effective relationships.
  • Adaptability to evolving environments and the capacity to prioritize competing demands.
  • Proven project management capabilities and experience in facilitating organizational change.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Master's degree in a clinical field, business, or healthcare administration is preferred. Familiarity with Alberta Improvement Way and IHI Open School training is considered an asset.
