Role Summary

Under the supervision of the rehabilitation program manager, the educator plays a crucial role in facilitating daily family, social, and recreational activities within the user's environment, whether at home, in a rehabilitation center, or other settings. The primary objective is to enhance prevention, rehabilitation, and re-education efforts, fostering positive interactions between the user and their family and social circles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage in daily family, social, and leisure activities within the user's environment.
  • Support prevention, rehabilitation, and re-education initiatives to enhance user-family dynamics.
  • Encourage autonomy and social engagement for users with sensory impairments (hearing, visual) or auditory processing challenges.
  • Design and facilitate intervention groups tailored to the user's specific needs.
  • Participate in initial assessments as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide interventions across various environments (home, daycare, educational institutions, workplaces, etc.).
  • Work with clients presenting comorbid conditions.
  • Serve a diverse, multi-ethnic clientele.
  • For child clients: Implement supportive activities for families, utilizing play to foster expression and support parental educational approaches.
  • Educate families on the effects of sensory impairments (hearing, visual) or language and auditory processing disorders on development and interpersonal relationships, offering informed recommendations.
  • Facilitate connections between the Sensorial & Language Coordination programs and external resources as needed.
  • Instruct users on the effective use of hearing aids and assist with troubleshooting.
  • Raise awareness among partners regarding sensory impairments and support their interventions with users.
  • Engage in program meetings and committees.
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage crisis situations effectively or engage appropriate resources promptly.
  • Conduct workshops to raise awareness about sensory impairments or language issues.

Specific Duties for the Deaf Program:

  • Enhance communication skills in Quebec Sign Language (LSQ) within the Deaf user's community.
  • Create tailored tools (visual aids, LSQ images, etc.) to facilitate understanding and application.
  • Encourage the use of various communication methods (email, video calls, text messaging, etc.).
  • Participate in community meetings with the Deaf population.

Required Academic Qualifications

  • Possession of a Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC) in Specialized Education Techniques or Intervention Techniques in Delinquency from an accredited institution.
  • OR
  • A Collegial Studies Certificate in Specialized Education Techniques or Institutional Rehabilitation.

Work Experience Requirements

For the Deaf Program:

  • At least one year of experience working with clients utilizing Quebec Sign Language (LSQ).
  • Familiarity with sensory impairments (hearing, visual) or language and auditory processing disorders is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of the network and referral processes is beneficial.
  • Understanding the mission of a physical rehabilitation center is a plus.
  • Awareness of the Disability Production Process (PPH) and goal-setting in lifestyle habits is an asset.

Additional Notes:

For the Deaf program, a strong understanding of Deaf culture and community realities is preferred.

Quebec Sign Language (LSQ) Proficiency:

For the Deaf program, a minimum level 5 proficiency in Quebec Sign Language (LSQ) is mandatory. Candidates lacking this proficiency must commit to completing the necessary training provided by the employer.

  • For other roles, knowledge of Quebec Sign Language (LSQ) may be required, with similar training commitments expected if proficiency is not met.

Remarks:

Degrees obtained outside Canada must include a comparative evaluation from the Ministry of Immigration, Francisation and Integration of Quebec (MIFI) and a valid work permit.
