About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Environmental Health Officer to join our team at the First Nations Health Authority. As an Environmental Health Officer, you will play a critical role in promoting and protecting the health and well-being of our communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Travel to various communities to deliver environmental public health programs and services.
  • Assist our nations in implementing and enforcing environmental health policies and regulations.
  • Conduct inspections and investigations to identify and address environmental health hazards.
  • Develop and implement strategies to prevent and control environmental health risks.
  • Collaborate with other health professionals and community members to promote health and wellness.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Technology Degree in Environmental Health or Public Health Inspection recognized by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI).
  • At least six months of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada) granted by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI).
  • Certifications such as Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Onsite Wastewater Management, CSA Playground Inspector, and Small Water System Operation.
  • Knowledge of current legislation and related guidelines, and standards and policies within the program areas, as well as their implication and application to First Nations.
  • Ability to gather, analyze, and synthesize scientific evidence information on hazards from environmental public health monitoring data, and translate into general terms.
  • Ability to read and interpret scientific literature and research.

  • A competitive salary range of $39,897 - $48,540 per year.
  • A permanent part-time position with a 0.5 FTE.
  • Flexible hours with core hours from 9 am to 3 pm.
