Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Underwriting Director to lead our insurance operations team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic underwriting objectives, managing team operations, and ensuring high-quality business practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Underwriting
    • Develop and communicate underwriting strategies to align with our business goals
    • Collaborate with the Strategy and Analytics team to leverage data and drive innovation in underwriting practices
    • Work with the Claims and New Business Management Operational Committee to define priorities and align working methods
  • Operations and Management
    • Manage the underwriting team's operations, ensuring efficient case allocation and rapid response to partners' needs
    • Produce and maintain management reports on underwriter productivity and efficiency, implementing action plans to improve performance
    • Ensure sound cost management of internal and external resources used in the underwriting process
    • Provide leadership to the team, including training, development, and performance appraisal of assistant managers
    • Make decisions for specific cases requiring extraordinary business judgment
  • Quality of Business
    • Provide feedback on quality to managers and underwriters following audit results
    • Ensure that underwriting processes provide a high-quality experience for individual insurance agencies, advisors, and clients
    • Ensure compliance with underwriting policies
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or equivalent degree in a related field
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in the insurance industry
  • In-depth knowledge of human resources management
  • A results-oriented manager who encourages teamwork
  • Knowledge of individual underwriting would be an asset
  • Advanced knowledge of the English language
  • Recognized life and health insurance designation would be an asset
