About the Role

The Office of Research and Innovation Services (ORIS) at the University of Lethbridge is dedicated to supporting the growing research community. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Research Facilitator in the health and medical sciences portfolio.

Reporting to the Director of Research and Innovation Services, you will play a vital role in fostering the success of faculty researchers within the health and medical sciences field. Your primary focus will be on navigating the landscape of health research funders, including organizations like the Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR) and Alberta Innovates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert guidance to faculty members on university policies, procedures, and external sponsor guidelines related to research.
  • Collaborate with faculty in developing compelling grant proposals, offering valuable insights and suggestions for improvement.
  • Work closely with Financial Services to manage and administer institutional funds allocated to research projects.
  • Ensure seamless pre- and post-award administration, including opening research accounts, tracking renewal deadlines, and submitting reports to granting agencies.
  • Manage and coordinate internal grant competitions, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation within the research community.
  • Communicate effectively with granting agencies on behalf of the university, advocating for the success of research endeavors.
  • Disseminate information about research activities and achievements to the broader research community, highlighting the impactful work being conducted at the University of Lethbridge.
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing research success rates and generating revenue through research-related activities.

Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in a health-related discipline (a PhD is an asset) coupled with three years of experience in writing and reviewing grant applications and contracts. Familiarity with national granting councils and major sponsors of university research in Canada is essential.
  • In-depth knowledge of the university's systems for managing the financial, legal, and ethical aspects of research is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling you to build strong relationships with faculty members across diverse disciplines.
  • Proven organizational and time management abilities, with a track record of successfully managing and coordinating a high volume of diverse activities under tight deadlines. The ability to adapt to changing priorities is crucial.
  • A respectful, tactful, and diplomatic approach when interacting with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Experience in managing governance timelines and processes.
  • A commitment to professional development, demonstrated by actively seeking out conferences, workshops, and other opportunities for growth.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Proficiency with technology and an advanced understanding of common Microsoft Office applications, Adobe software, and other business process management tools.
  • Membership in the Canadian Association of Research Administrators (CARA) is considered an asset.
