About This Opportunity:

The Roseway Hospital (RH) in Shelburne is in search of family medicine practitioners to deliver inpatient hospital coverage for one week each month. This role includes nightly on-call duties from Monday through Sunday night, with compensation of approximately $8,000 per week (inclusive of call fees) as part of the Community Hospital In-patient Program. RH accommodates 19 inpatient beds with a diverse patient population and offers a fulfilling work environment. Physicians at RH collaborate closely with various healthcare facilities in the region.

The RH environment is characterized by a friendly and collegial atmosphere where every staff member is known by name. The hospital features a 24-hour level 3 Emergency Department and provides a comprehensive range of primary and secondary services through inpatient, outpatient, and satellite programs, along with skilled nursing staff and a helipad for emergency airlift.

Responsibilities:

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing a panel of hospitalist patients
  • Coordinating community-based care and secondary and tertiary healthcare services
  • Adhering to the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Nova Scotia Health Authority
  • Engaging in quality improvement and evaluation initiatives

Expected Hours:

During the hospitalist week, you will be on call for your patients 24/7, with minimal overnight calls and rare evening hospital visits. Coverage is required for 1 or 2 weeks within a 4-week cycle (1:4 or 2:4). There is potential for additional hospitalist weeks based on availability, as well as opportunities in the primary care clinic, ER shifts, or locum positions in local family practices during off weeks.

Qualifications:

  • Eligibility for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
  • Certification eligibility with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)
  • Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) or proof of alternative coverage
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
