Position Overview

The role of the Registered Nurse (RN) is pivotal in exemplifying clinical excellence and adhering to the practice standards set forth by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO). The RN collaborates effectively as a vital member of the healthcare team, delivering direct patient care aligned with established standards. This role necessitates a commitment to continuous professional development and a collaborative approach to patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver patient and family-centered care within the RN scope of practice, guided by the College of Nurses of Ontario's framework.
  • Adhere to established hospital policies and procedures, including emergency protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with entry-to-practice competencies, standards, and legislative guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and all healthcare team members.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to address complex health issues and provide comprehensive care.
  • Participate in the assessment and ongoing documentation of patient health status.
  • Assist in developing and implementing care plans, evaluating their effectiveness regularly.
  • Mentor new staff members and students, fostering a supportive learning environment.
  • Take a leadership role in coordinating patient care within assigned areas.
  • Utilize resources efficiently to enhance patient care delivery.
  • Engage in the development and evaluation of clinical pathways.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Recent experience in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is essential.
  • Proficiency in initiating IVs for pediatric patients under two years of age.
  • Experience with ventilated neonates, CPAP, and care of UAC and UVC lines is required.
  • Strong physical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to patient safety and quality care principles.
  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
  • Current certifications in BCLS and Neonatal Resuscitation are mandatory.
  • BScN is preferred, along with current ACLS certification.
