About the Role
Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Recreation Assistant to join our team at Shorncliffe Village Care Home in Sechelt, BC.
Key Responsibilities
- Work in a team-based environment to carry out recreation programs in consultation with the Recreation Therapist.
- Support the team by organizing and overseeing patients/clients/residents on outings, coordinating the portering of patients/clients/residents to and from the activity, demonstrating techniques of recreation activities, and carrying out prescribed adaptations to recreation activities.
- Provide functional direction to volunteers and evaluate and report relevant observations of patient's/client's/resident's progress/participation to the Recreation Therapist or interdisciplinary team.
- Organize furnishings and equipment for designated activities and maintain inventory of equipment and supplies.
- May operate a bus with a passenger seating capacity of up to 25 passengers to transport patients/clients/residents to and from community participation activities as required by site/program.

Sechelt is a charming seaside community located on the traditional territories of the shíshálh (Sechelt) Nation. It is accessible from the mainland by a 40-minute ferry trip followed by a 25-minute drive along Highway 101. The community offers a range of outdoor activities, including sightseeing, boating, diving, camping, and mountain biking, as well as several municipal parks, eateries, and locally owned shops and galleries.
Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized Recreation Diploma Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Valid Class 4 vehicle license (unrestricted) may be required.
