Position Overview

Job Title: Marine Engineering Specialist & FMS Administrator

Reports To: Director, Fleet Engineering

Department: Fleet Engineering

Role Purpose: The Marine Engineering Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the effective operation of the Fleet Engineering Department. This position involves providing comprehensive administrative support, including the preparation of plans, reports, spreadsheets, charts, and presentations, as well as managing the ABS Enterprise Fleet Management System.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Assist in the development of an annual maintenance strategy to guarantee the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of the fleet.
  2. Create comprehensive project management folders for winter work and major initiatives related to vessel and terminal operations.
  3. Generate accurate and well-structured reports, plans, spreadsheets, charts, and presentations for both internal and external communications.
  4. Maintain organized hard copy and electronic filing systems for the Fleet Engineering Department, including equipment data, certifications, and project documentation.
  5. Oversee supplier insurance documentation to ensure compliance with relevant requirements.
  6. Track daily logs, fuel usage, environmental performance, and other key performance indicators.
FMS Administration Responsibilities
  1. Serve as the primary user of the Fleet Management System, providing training and support to other users as necessary.
  2. Collaborate with senior personnel to keep the ABS Fleet Management System updated.
  3. Reference parts manuals to input complete parts lists into the FMS database.
  4. Monitor the FMS dashboard to identify overdue tasks.
  5. Support field operations by retrieving electronic drawings, documents, certificates, manuals, and reference materials.
  6. Identify potential repair or replacement opportunities for equipment under warranty.
Qualifications
  1. A diploma in Marine Engineering or a related discipline is required.
  2. A minimum of two years of relevant experience.
  3. Experience in conducting basic research in regulatory or policy manuals is advantageous.
  4. Highly organized with strong prioritization and problem-solving skills.
  5. Proficient technical skills with experience in databases and the MS Office Suite.
  6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are essential.
  7. A valid Class G Ontario license or equivalent and a valid passport for international travel are required.
Physical and Sensory Demands

This role may involve physical activities such as lifting, bending, and crawling, and may require the use of ladders, forklifts, and personal protective equipment.

Working Conditions

The position is based at the head office and may require availability via phone or email outside of regular hours. A standard Monday to Friday schedule is expected, with occasional weekend and evening work as needed.
