This role operates within a client and family-centered care framework, adhering to the standards, scope, and ethical guidelines established by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and the core values of Northern Health.

Under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor or their delegate, and in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, the Practical Nursing Specialist employs the Nursing Process, conducts assessments, formulates care plans, delivers nursing care, and may guide other staff members.


The LPN functions in alignment with the competencies expected within the Entry to Practice Competencies, Scope of Practice, and Standards of Practice as outlined by BCCNM, while also adhering to a client and family-centered care approach and following organizational policies, procedures, and unit-specific protocols.

Work Schedule: Days, Evenings - 06:45 to 14:45, 14:45 to 22:45

New Compensation Rate:
As of April 1, 2024, the new compensation rate is: $41.35/hour

Qualifications

  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN registrant.
  • One (1) year of recent, relevant experience in acute care or residential settings.
Skills and Competencies:

  • Proven knowledge and skills in a specific clinical specialty or patient demographic, depending on the caseload (e.g., acute care, gerontology, palliative care).
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to delegate care and share expertise with the multidisciplinary team, clients, and their families.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Capacity to build and maintain rapport with clients.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Keen observational skills to recognize changes in clients' conditions.
  • Proficient in planning, organizing, and prioritizing care initiatives.
  • Competence in operating relevant equipment and proficiency in applicable computer applications.
  • Physical capability to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
