Overview

The Facilities Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring a safe, secure, and organized work environment. This role involves overseeing maintenance operations, compliance with safety regulations, and managing personnel effectively.

Safety and Compliance Management
  • Oversee security personnel and contractors to meet safety objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations regarding controlled substances and safety standards.
  • Act as a primary responder to security incidents, particularly during non-standard hours.
  • Identify potential hazards and implement necessary safety measures.
  • Lead training initiatives to promote safe practices and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Conduct thorough investigations of accidents and incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Encourage proactive identification and resolution of workplace hazards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in all work areas.
  • Regularly audit compliance with safety policies and procedures.
Strategic Planning and Communication
  • Assess personnel needs and recommend improvements in skills and resources.
  • Understand and anticipate the operational needs of facilities and staff.
  • Provide insights on facility expansion and operational enhancements.
  • Communicate strategic plans and recommendations to management.
  • Enhance the use of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for asset management.
Team Leadership and Supervision
  • Ensure equitable treatment of all team members in accordance with company policies.
  • Optimize staffing levels to meet operational demands and enhance productivity.
  • Manage attendance, leave requests, and vacation schedules.
  • Facilitate training programs to ensure staff are well-prepared.
  • Administer performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
  • Oversee the Performance Improvement program, addressing issues promptly.
Maintenance Management
  • Ensure the upkeep and repair of facilities, production equipment, and HVAC systems.
  • Manage external contractors for building maintenance and cleaning services.
  • Align production capabilities with operational needs for efficient manufacturing.
  • Implement a Total Productive Maintenance program to enhance equipment reliability.
Performance and Financial Oversight
  • Monitor safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance metrics.
  • Supervise daily staff activities to meet project deadlines and objectives.
  • Address any significant operational issues and implement corrective measures.
  • Track key performance indicators and develop action plans for improvement.
  • Manage budgets effectively to achieve financial targets.
Continuous Improvement Initiatives
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and establish performance metrics.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the team.
  • Lead visual management processes and CI projects.
  • Facilitate Kaizen activities to enhance operational efficiency.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform other related duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Applied Science, preferably in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Alternatively, skilled trade certification in Electrician, Millwright, Plumbing, or HVAC.
  • 3-5 years of relevant management or supervisory experience.
