Speech Language Pathologist Assistant

Position Overview:

The Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) will play a vital role within a collaborative team, delivering essential services to young learners in our Community Preschool Education (CPE) initiative. As an SLPA, you will work closely with and report to a licensed Speech Language Pathologist. The ideal candidate will assist in the development of tailored educational plans that cater to the unique needs of the children in our care. The SLPA will also be instrumental in supporting Individual Program Plans (IPPs) in alignment with educational standards and facilitating coordination among our team of specialists.

Contractual Position – Full-time

Key Duties:

  • Collaborate with a diverse classroom team to deliver both direct and indirect speech and language therapy that aligns with the SLP's objectives outlined in the IPP.
  • Travel to various locations to engage with children in their preschool, daycare, or home environments.
  • Implement and model communication techniques throughout daily activities.
  • Document and share updates on children's progress with team members.
  • Provide comprehensive written summaries of services rendered.
  • Organize and maintain educational materials for effective programming.
  • Assist the SLP and Coordinating Teacher with various administrative tasks, such as setting up files and creating resources.
  • Engage in regular discussions with the SLP to review strategies and progress.
  • Participate in community initiatives and support agency endeavors.
  • Possess the ability to work remotely and conduct online sessions to support children's learning objectives.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Completion of a diploma program for Speech Language Pathologist Assistants or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in Speech Language Pathology with preschool-aged children is advantageous.

Necessary Skills:

  • Familiarity with communication tools such as Board Maker and Augmentative/Alternative Communication methods is beneficial.
  • Understanding of pediatric speech disorders, including apraxia and dysarthria, is a plus.
  • Ability to engage and inspire preschoolers through both in-person and virtual interactions.
  • Commitment to inclusive practices and respect for diversity in all forms.
  • Demonstrated reliability, flexibility, and effective time management abilities.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the capacity to work independently.
  • Willingness to occasionally work evenings or weekends for community events and professional development.
  • Perform other related responsibilities as needed.

Work Environment and Employment Conditions:

  • Comfortable with frequent kneeling and squatting, and occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment for community visits and health safety requirements.
  • Full-time hours, Monday to Friday.
  • May involve prolonged periods of sitting and computer use.
  • Travel within the community is required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a reliable vehicle for site visits.
