About the Opportunity
In this pivotal role, you will report directly to the Provincial Medical Executive Director, overseeing the Family Medicine Medical staff operations within the Zone. Your leadership will be essential in strategic and operational planning, ensuring effective service delivery in collaboration with key administrative leaders.
As the Department Head, you will guide the Family Medicine network leads, focusing on performance management and physician resource allocation for departmental members.
Key Responsibilities
1.
Ensure adherence to NSHA Bylaws and Rules and Regulations, including credentialing approvals, managing intricate applications, and addressing CPSNS restrictions.
2. Conduct regular departmental meetings and provide comprehensive minutes to the Provincial Medical Executive Director.3.
Actively participate in relevant committee meetings such as ZMAC, Clinical Affairs, Zone Council, Network Council, and LTC MAC meetings.
4. Collaborate with Health Services Managers and Leads to co-lead strategic and operational planning and budgeting initiatives.5. Maintain service continuity through effective scheduling practices, including managing vacation requests, on-call schedules, and locum utilization.
6. Monitor departmental standards, quality, and resource utilization.
7. Implement performance management strategies for all department members.
8. Address complaints and manage disciplinary actions for departmental personnel.
9.
Support the medical education mandate by recruiting physicians for teaching roles, participating in the Dal Medical School Committee, and coordinating with medical residents and students.
10.Engage in clinical services planning and support the management of various clinics within the zone, advocating for the healthcare system and bridging Acute Care with Community Care.
11.Lead recruitment and retention efforts, identifying opportunities, managing recruitment processes, handling retirement transitions, and addressing the needs of new recruits.
12. Ensure completion of onboarding processes for new hires, with assistance from the Specialty Site Lead as necessary.13. Organize regular IMMR for the Department in collaboration with Organization Performance.
14. Support and implement the Primary Care Strategy, focusing on transformation, modernization, and addressing physician issues within the zone.
15. Participate in leadership development initiatives.
16. Execute all responsibilities with a focus on EDIRA (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Reconciliation, and Accessibility) principles.
Eligibility Criteria
⦁ MD licensed in Nova Scotia and privileged with Nova Scotia Health.
⦁ Demonstrated evidence of ongoing leadership training.
Compensation Structure
Each position is 0.5 FTE, with individual compensation determined based on prior experience.
