Course Title: Intercultural Contacts and Hybrid Identities in Spanish America
Course Description:
This course explores the cultural dynamics of the Americas, examining the intersection of cultures, identities, and power relations. Through a critical analysis of literary and artistic works, students will engage with the complexities of cultural hybridity, mestizaje, and resistance in the face of colonialism and cultural appropriation.
Course Objectives:
- To develop a nuanced understanding of the cultural and historical contexts of the Americas
- To analyze the representation of cultural hybridity and mestizaje in literary and artistic works
- To critically evaluate the impact of colonialism and cultural appropriation on identity formation
- To develop effective communication and critical thinking skills through the analysis and discussion of course materials
Course Requirements:
- Master's degree and advanced doctoral studies in Hispanic studies or equivalent
- Experience in university teaching
- Trilingual: French, English, and Spanish
- Areas of expertise: cinema, cultures, and literatures of the Spanish-speaking world
Additional Information:
This course is designed for students who wish to deepen their understanding of the cultural dynamics of the Americas and develop their critical thinking and communication skills. The course will be taught in Spanish and will require students to engage with a range of literary and artistic works.
