POSITION OVERVIEW – Head Lifeguard (Full Time)
The Head Lifeguard plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all pool users. This position involves performing lifeguard and swim instruction duties, managing pool operations (including monitoring pool chemistry and supplies), facilitating youth leadership programs, and overseeing the opening and closing of the facility as needed. Additionally, the Head Lifeguard will handle administrative responsibilities and supervise the Lifeguard/Swim Instructors (LFIN) under the guidance of the Aquatics Assistant Managers.
Work hours will vary based on operational needs, facility hours, and program requirements. Head Lifeguards may be scheduled before and after regular facility hours for specific aquatic duties.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deliver swim lessons and assessments in line with the Lifesaving Society's Swim for Life curriculum.
- Provide constructive feedback to participants and parents regarding lesson performance and outcomes.
- Supervise all activities, including change rooms and pool deck areas.
- Assume a leadership role in all Aquatics operations when Aquatics Assistant Managers are unavailable.
- Support team members by monitoring their performance and encouraging development.
- Maintain confidentiality when addressing sensitive issues with the Aquatics Assistant Manager/Manager and in communications with staff.
- Guide and mentor new employees through orientation.
- Ensure all lifeguarding responsibilities are executed in accordance with the Lifesaving Society's National Lifeguard standards.
- Guarantee the safety of all patrons in the pool and changing areas.
- Respond promptly and effectively to all First Aid incidents, documenting and reporting necessary information to the Aquatics Assistant Manager.
- Assist in preparing contamination reports, water testing data, and other required documentation.
- Conduct necessary water tests and apply appropriate chemicals to maintain pool balance.
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety standards in the Aquatics area.
QUALIFICATIONS
We seek individuals with diverse backgrounds, skills, and experiences. The ideal candidate will possess:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in lifeguarding and swim instruction.
- Certifications in:
• National Lifeguard-pool certification (NL-pool)
• Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
• Standard First Aid/CPR "C" including AED
- Preferred attributes include:
• Excellent communication skills
• Strong independent work ethic with a focus on customer service
• Proven leadership abilities
COVID-19 vaccination is a requirement for this position and a condition of employment. Candidates must provide proof of full vaccination with a Health Canada approved vaccine prior to their start date.
