The BC SPCA is a progressive organization with facilities and services throughout the province. We are seeking individuals who are passionate about animal welfare to join our team during this transformative period.
About the Role:
In this position, you will report to the Animal Centre Manager and contribute positively to a collaborative team environment. Your primary responsibilities will include daily animal care tasks, ensuring that all animals receive the highest standards of care in accordance with the Five Freedoms. You will thrive in a dynamic setting that requires adaptability and a proactive approach.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the facility to promote a healthy environment for the animals. Ensure that kennels, runs, and cat enclosures are organized and conducive to the well-being of the animals, following established protocols. Monitor and document the health and welfare of the animals, keeping accurate records and logs. Provide proper nutrition and care, including feeding, watering, exercising, and enriching the animals' lives. Perform grooming and bathing as needed to maintain the animals' hygiene. Treat all animals with kindness and respect, adhering to the BC SPCA's principles of animal welfare. Undertake additional tasks as assigned by management.Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Valid Class N or 5 BC Drivers' License and a clean driving record. Strong customer service skills, including patience, professionalism, and attention to detail. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities. A collaborative team player who builds trusting relationships with colleagues and volunteers. Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision. Knowledge of various animal breeds, characteristics, and common health issues. Previous experience in animal care or a related field is an asset. A genuine interest in all aspects of animal welfare. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and moving animals. Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office. Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and varying shifts as required.
