Academic and Operations Director

The Director of Operations is responsible for overseeing and providing strategic guidance to operations leaders. This position is accountable for all aspects of site operations, including production, maintenance, engineering, supply chain, and finance. Direct reports include production, maintenance, engineering, supply chain, with matrix reporting for finance, quality, human resources, environmental health and safety. The Director of Operations is responsible for developing and adhering to the annual production budget, participating in new product development and planning, and attending and participating in various organizational meetings.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and implement strategies to improve employee safety, identify issues, and solve them, with a focus on achieving a zero-injury mindset.
- Ensure the implementation and maintenance of food safety and quality systems, and deliver exceptional customer service.
- Collaborate with the supply chain team to identify capacity constraints and ensure timely delivery of products to meet customer expectations.
- Implement performance systems, lean manufacturing approaches, and drive proactive communication throughout the organization.
- Lead by example on the floor, calibrate teams on performance, and leverage performance system approaches to drive results.
- Deliver 3-5% cost savings annually through identifying and executing projects to improve OEE, reduce product waste, and reduce unnecessary costs.
- Create and drive annual business plans on people, safety, quality, service, and costs.
- Lead plant teams, ensure clear goals, objectives, and expectations on performance, and calibrate the team on results regularly.
- Monitor daily operation schedules for accuracy and ensure daily operational goals are realized.
- Provide strategic guidance to the organization through participation in cross-functional meetings and data analysis on sales trends and cost performance.
- Create a 3-5 year strategic plan for the facility to ensure supply, maintain infrastructure needs, and support the organization's growth strategy.
- Improve facility stewardship and asset maintenance.
- Participate in new product development and planning by researching the cost and ability of producing the product.
- Lead the implementation of new product implementation for the facility.
- Adhere to the approved operations annual budget and provide budget updates and adjustments as requested to Vice President.
Education/Certifications: Bachelor's degree required; preference for degrees in engineering and food science.
Experience: Must have a minimum of ten years experience in a production facility; with a minimum of three years as a plant manager. Prefer experience in the food industry.
