Position: Chief Executive Officer
Compensation: $115,000- $120,000 Note: This position is also available as a 4 day/ week position at a prorated salary.
Role structure: Hybrid, with presence in the office required at least 3 days per week.
Direct reports: 5 program managers and administrative managers.
About us: The HEAL Project (THP) is dedicated to educating elementary school children in San Mateo County about the origins of their food and its significance through engaging, hands-on educational programs conducted in classrooms, gardens, and at the local School Farm. Our initiatives promote healthy lifestyle choices while fostering environmental and agricultural awareness through a comprehensive, interactive curriculum.
Current Fiscal Year Budget: $850,000.
Full Staff Composition: 12 full-time and part-time staff members and 1 independent contractor, totaling 7 full-time equivalents.
Where we are today: The HEAL Project's skilled team is committed to directing organizational resources to the most underserved public schools. We are exploring innovative ways to enhance our impact on students in collaboration with a diverse array of youth service providers.
Our Ideal Candidate: We are in search of an experienced leader with exceptional interpersonal abilities and a proven history of success in fundraising, team leadership, and advancing the mission. A shared enthusiasm for gardening, culinary arts, youth education, and conservation efforts is highly valued.
Responsibilities:- Leadership: Inspire and disseminate enthusiasm for our mission among organizational stakeholders: staff, board members, volunteers, and donors, encouraging them to engage with and support the organization's initiatives.
- Foster a cohesive culture for all stakeholders, creating a welcoming and inclusive community.
- Represent The HEAL Project in the broader community, participating in key networking opportunities and cultivating relationships with local officials and educational leaders.
- Board Partnership: Cultivate relationships with the Board of Directors, providing members with the necessary resources and training to act as organizational ambassadors.
- Actively engage with key Board committees to achieve shared objectives.
- Vision and Strategy: Collaborate with the board and staff to align the organization around a compelling vision for the future that reflects our mission and Theory of Change.
- Work with staff to develop goals, strategies, and tactics in the form of annual plans that serve as a roadmap for the organization's activities.
- Management and Personnel Development: Build, lead, and retain a diverse and effective staff committed to the mission and equipped with the necessary skills for success.
- Provide regular opportunities for reciprocal feedback with staff.
- Ensure that each staff member has a professional development plan.
- Establish effective protocols for meetings, workflow, and decision-making.
- Oversee the annual professional review cycle.
- Impact: Collaborate with Program Managers to ensure that each program aligns with The HEAL Project's mission and Theory of Change.
- Implement effective systems for program evaluation and regularly assess the program portfolio, adapting to the needs of our students and community.
- Growing Organizational Resources: Serve as the chief fundraiser, collaborating with the Board and staff to oversee annual fundraising events and develop a comprehensive fund development plan.
- Work with the Board and staff to identify donor prospects and implement an effective donor retention strategy.
- Collaborate with staff to create a plan for pursuing grant funding and managing grant reporting and evaluation.
- Financial Management: Collaborate with staff to ensure accurate recording of financial transactions and develop the organization's annual budget.
- Communicate financial information clearly to staff and board members.
- 3-5 years of experience in a director-level position, with prior executive experience preferred.
- Experience managing staff and collaborating with a board of directors.
- Proven experience in developing and executing a strategic plan.
- Strong financial literacy.
- Demonstrated experience in donor development, including securing contributions of at least $5,000.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Bachelor's degree.
- 5-7 years of director-level experience.
- Advanced degree.
- Spanish-language proficiency is a plus.
- Bachelor's or advanced degree strongly preferred, or equivalent work experience.
- Must be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States.
- Must test negative for Tuberculosis.
- Must pass fingerprinting and background checks to work with children.
Staff are responsible for transportation to and from job sites, as well as occasional trips to the main office and other school sites. Travel reimbursement will be provided for travel outside of designated areas.
Note: No relocation compensation is provided for this role.
This role requires prolonged physical activity, including bending, lifting, and manual dexterity to operate various tools and office equipment. A range of hearing and eyesight is necessary for effective communication and data maintenance. Ability to lift 30lbs is required, along with flexibility to adapt to a changing environment.
