Experienced Veterinary Surgery Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Veterinary Surgery Technician to join our team at VCA California Veterinary Specialists in Ontario. Our hospital is a 24-hour Emergency and Specialty hospital, and we are looking for a motivated individual who is willing to work in a fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in a specialty surgery department or critical care environment and will be comfortable with critical anesthetic cases, including septic abdomens and thoracotomies. The schedule will be 4 days/10-hour work week, with no weekends required.

The successful candidate will have excellent anesthetic skills, knowledge of ventilator setup and management, and basic anesthetic physiology. They will also have experience with surgical preparation for soft tissue and orthopedic procedures, as well as drawing blood, placing IV catheters, and sedation.

We offer a competitive salary, ranging from $26-32/hour, with higher pay for VTS certification. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, and paid vacation/sick days, 401(k), and generous employee pet discounts.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Anesthesiology monitoring, including blood pressure, CO2, SpO2, invasive blood pressure monitoring, ventilator setup and management
  • Calculating and administering multiple CRIs
  • Performing hands-free radiographs
  • Surgical preparation for soft tissue and orthopedic procedures
  • Drawing blood, placing IV catheters, sedation, intubation

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Anesthetic skills for advanced procedures, such as thoracotomies and septic abdomens
  • Knowledge of ventilator setup and management

  • Basic computer skills
  • Works well under pressure
  • Able to multi-task
  • Able to stand on feet much of the day
  • Able to lift up to 40 lbs

Education and Experience:

  • High school graduate or equivalent; college degree desirable
  • Certification as a registered veterinary technician (RVT) required

Salary: $26-32/hour - Salary is higher for VTS

Signing Bonus: $1000 - Must meet all criteria (paid after 120 days of employment)
