Job Summary

The successful candidate will be working as part of a Consultation Liaison Team, providing direct consultation and support to individuals with mental health and addiction issues within a hospital setting. The incumbent will be responsible for assisting with triaging and providing nursing support to clients with mental health and addiction issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop strong service relationships with physicians, healthcare providers, addiction counselors, and social workers.
  • Integrate nursing theory and principles of physical health, mental health, and addictions in the provision and management of direct client/patient/resident care.
  • Assess client needs, develop interdisciplinary team plans, and provide consultation and follow-up after discharge.
  • Provide education to clients, caregivers, and healthcare students.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) degree.
  • Active registration with the Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan (RPNAS) or the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNA).
  • Current PART and BCLS certification.
  • Two years' experience in Inpatient Mental Health Services, with clinical expertise in assessment and treatment planning for individuals with major mental health disorders and substance abuse and detoxification issues.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Nursing diploma or Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing degree.
  • Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve conflicts and make decisions.
  • Self-direction and ability to delegate tasks.
  • Ability to apply the Mental Health Act in a case management approach.
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement a Solution Focused approach to case management.
  • Ability to accept and implement change.
  • Ability to work as a team member and establish effective interpersonal/consultative relationships.
  • Ability to facilitate the implementation, evaluation, and ongoing design of the current care model.
  • Excellent knowledge of the mental health needs of adults and their families, and a practical application of a broad range of clinical interventions.
