Position Overview

ECO Magazine is seeking a skilled individual to operate Uncrewed Surface Vehicles (USVs) as part of our Ocean Services team. This role involves navigating the complexities of ocean environments while contributing to our mission of enhancing oceanic understanding through innovative data collection.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the deployment of USVs, including mission planning and logistical coordination.
  • Travel internationally to facilitate USV operations across diverse marine settings.
  • Conduct the operation of USVs, ensuring effective transportation, deployment, retrieval, and mission oversight.
  • Address maintenance and repair challenges related to USVs.
  • Operate support vessels while adhering to established safety protocols.
  • Prepare comprehensive field and project reports, collaborating with project managers to support ongoing initiatives.
  • Engage in shift work to ensure continuous operations.
  • Coordinate with local authorities to secure necessary approvals for operations.
  • Gather oceanographic and meteorological data to support research efforts.
  • Participate in training sessions and contribute to the development of training materials.
  • Work alongside engineering and manufacturing teams to enhance new builds and sensor integration.
  • Collaborate with sales and project managers to assess project efforts and budgets.
  • Act as a liaison with stakeholders and clients, managing specific projects and groups.
  • Educate the public about our mission, objectives, and technologies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in maritime operations, particularly with remotely operated technologies.
  • Proficient technical troubleshooting abilities.
  • Degree in natural sciences, engineering, or data sciences is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying scientific concepts clearly.
  • Familiarity with oceanographic data collection and field operations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in both team settings and independently.
  • Exceptional organizational and planning capabilities.
  • Adaptability and enthusiasm for a dynamic start-up environment.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's license.
  • Physical capability to lift 50 lbs unassisted.

Preferred Skills

  • Completion of a boat operator training course, SVOP or higher.
  • Certification in Small Domestic Vessel—Basic Safety (formerly MED—A3).
  • Marine First Aid Certification.

This position is based in a dynamic environment focused on ocean exploration and data collection.
