Nurse I Position

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Nurse I to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a Staff Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care in an inpatient psychiatric setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' nursing care needs, identifying areas for improvement and developing individualized recovery plans. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless care delivery. Administer medications and treatments as ordered, maintaining accurate records and adhering to facility policies. Establish and maintain a safe and therapeutic environment, promoting patient well-being and staff safety. Provide training and education to colleagues, enhancing the overall quality of care.
Requirements:
Knowledge of nursing techniques, medical diagnoses, and accepted treatment programs. Skilled in patient care, record-keeping, and effective communication. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple responsibilities.

Essential Functions:
Attends work regularly, adhering to agency leave policy. Performs comprehensive assessments, observing and analyzing patient behavior and status. Develops and contributes to individualized recovery plans, collaborating with recovery team members. Provides health teaching and coping strategies to patients and families. Utilizes one-to-one counseling skills to assist patients in identifying anxiety and developing coping strategies. Initiates and implements population-specific nursing interventions, adhering to standards of care. Administers medications and treatments as ordered, maintaining accurate records. Establishes and monitors the therapeutic milieu, ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment. Provides training to colleagues in psychiatric nursing principles, unit routines, and milieu management. Initiates and monitors the appropriate use of restraint or seclusion, ensuring patient and staff safety. Performs other duties as assigned, actively participating in disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation.
