Medical Laboratory Technologist I, Core Laboratory Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technologist I to join our team in the Core Laboratory. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing laboratory procedures, analyzing results, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
Key Responsibilities- Obtain laboratory samples from patients and perform laboratory procedures according to established policies.
- Prepare solutions, reagents, standards, and controls for use in analysis, adhering to Standard Operating Procedures.
- Communicate test results to designated parties, utilizing established procedures.
- Perform routine instrument maintenance, including setup, calibration, and troubleshooting.
- Assist in the evaluation of technical procedures and provide input on policy development.
- Participate in departmental training and orientation programs, demonstrating established laboratory procedures.
- Maintain inventory of supplies, identifying depleting stock and notifying applicable personnel.
- Ensure a clean and safe work environment, adhering to established policies and procedures.
- Certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
- One year recent related experience in the designated discipline within the last six years, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Demonstrated recent working knowledge of the assigned section or sections.
- Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory procedures and technical competence to perform tests used in the assigned section of the laboratory.
- Basic awareness of research process.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including effective communication, both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure in a constantly changing environment.
- Basic knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care using point of care instrumentation.
- Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment and software, including techniques appropriate to the designated area of the laboratory.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada, as per TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
- Knowledge of social, economic, political, and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
